How safety was rated
Sydney is a safe city overall, and all twelve outer hotels are rated 4.0 or higher. The bigger differences come from the area and from the walk between station and hotel late at night. The ratings are QRS's own judgement. The table uses NSW BOCSAR recorded-crime counts for the 12 months to June 2025, keeping only the two offences a visitor is most exposed to (non-domestic assault and robbery). The rate column divides by approximate LGA population, so treat it as a rough comparison, not a precise figure.

Parramatta's rate is pushed up by its busy CBD nightlife and commuter population; Hawkesbury's by a small resident base. Sydney Olympic Park sits inside the Parramatta LGA but is a quiet, low-population precinct.
Things to know before booking
- Commute times are door-to-door estimates built from published station-to-station times plus the walk from each hotel address. Each row has a Google Maps link to check the live route for your actual departure time.
- Two hotels near ICC are cheap: Azzurro Pod Hotel (SGD 90, free breakfast, 330 m) and Nomads hostel (SGD 112, 540 m). If a pod or hostel bed works for you, nothing on the outer list beats a 5-minute walk. Regular hotels next to ICC were SGD 285 to 800 a night for these dates.
- Conference socials often run past 10 pm. On the outer T1 lines (St Marys, Penrith, Windsor, Richmond) late trains are less frequent and the trip home is 1.5 to 2 hours. From 1 am, NightRide buses replace many trains.
- Prices move quickly: ibis Sydney Olympic Park showed SGD 163, 176 and 191 across checks on the same day, and Crowne Plaza Hawkesbury Valley ranged from SGD 159 to 355 depending on the site. Confirm the final total, taxes and cancellation terms on the booking page.
- "Lowest seen" often comes from smaller resellers (Vio.com, goseek). "Plan with" is the cheapest price from the hotel itself, Booking.com, Expedia or Agoda.
- Pay fares by tapping a contactless card or phone on Opal readers; daily fare caps apply. Rome2rio lists most of these train rides at roughly A$4 to 9 one way.
