How we rated safety in Sydney
QRS's opinion, not an official rating. Based on NSW BOCSAR recorded non-domestic assault and robbery counts for the 12 months to June 2025, divided by approximate LGA population (via Sydney Dispatch and the BOCSAR 2025 Q4 report). Central Sydney hotels have no score: no figures for that area were used.
All twelve outer hotels are rated 4.0 or higher. The bigger differences come from the area and from the walk between station and hotel late at night. The ratings are QRS's own judgement. The table uses NSW BOCSAR recorded-crime counts for the 12 months to June 2025, keeping only the two offences a visitor is most exposed to (non-domestic assault and robbery). The rate column divides by approximate LGA population, so treat it as a rough comparison, not a precise figure.
Central Sydney (Darling Harbour and Haymarket) has no score, because the table has no figures for the City of Sydney area.

Before you book
- Commute times are door-to-door estimates built from published station-to-station times plus the walk from each hotel address. Each row has a Google Maps link to check the live route.
- The two cheapest options next to ICC, Azzurro Pod Hotel and Nomads, look like dorm beds, so their prices may be per bed rather than per room for two.
- Conference socials often run past 10 pm. On the outer T1 lines (St Marys, Penrith, Windsor, Richmond) late trains are less frequent and the trip home is 1.5 to 2 hours. From 1 am, NightRide buses replace many trains.
- Google showed room offers well below the headline price for APX Darling Harbour, ibis Sydney Darling Harbour and Mantra Sydney Central on the same page. We kept the higher figure and marked those rows, so the real price may be lower.
- Pay fares by tapping a contactless card or phone on Opal readers; daily fare caps apply.

How we rated safety in Atlanta
QRS's opinion, not an official rating. Based on the Midtown Alliance year-end 2025 summary of Atlanta Police Department data (Midtown) and a Fox 5 report on the APD COBRA report for Zone 5, early 2025 (downtown). Hotels in other areas have no score because no figures were found.
APD's own crime site (atlantapd.org) returned Access Denied to the browser and QRS did not try to work around it, and the Sandy Springs police page returned 403. Figures come from two sources only: the Midtown Alliance year-end 2025 summary, which says it compiles Atlanta Police Department data for the Midtown Improvement District, and a Fox 5 report of APD's COBRA report for Zone 5 (downtown) in early 2025. Midtown and downtown ratings are QRS's judgement from those figures. Hotels in the Georgia Tech, Old Fourth Ward, Buckhead, Sandy Springs and Decatur areas have no score, because no figures were found for them. Ratings use the scale given (2 Take care late, 3 OK with rideshare late, 4 Safe, 5 Very safe) and none is rated 5.

Before you book
- Times come from Google Maps for a Thursday morning arrival. Maps routed to the main GWCC pin, usually through Peachtree Center with a walk of about 15 minutes, so SEC District or Vine City may be quicker for Building C.
- Hall C1 is in Building C, and GWCC says walking between buildings takes 5 to 15 minutes, so allow for that on top of these times.
- Google showed very different prices from different sellers for several hotels, such as Signia and the Courtyard Decatur. Marked rows need a check before you rely on them.
- Maps flagged the short walk from Signia as a restricted or private route, so confirm it on arrival.

How we rated safety in Paris
QRS's opinion, not an official rating. Based on SSMSI recorded offences per 1,000 residents for 2025 (July 2026 edition), read through data.gouv.fr, for the arrondissements and communes in the table.
Ratings are QRS's judgement from the Ministry of the Interior's statistical service (SSMSI) communal base for 2025, July 2026 edition, read through data.gouv.fr: recorded offences per 1,000 residents for Paris arrondissements 17, 16 and 5 and for Neuilly-sur-Seine, Courbevoie and Puteaux, set against Paris overall. Figures count offences by where they happened and divide by residents, so busy visitor and office areas look worse per resident than they feel to a visitor; they say nothing about a single street. QRS could not reach the Préfecture de Police bulletins, so none were used. Scale: 5 = lowest recorded rates of the areas checked, 4 = below the Paris average, 3 = near or above it on theft.

Before you book
- Times come from Google Maps for a Wednesday in early November arriving by 08:30, because Maps has no December timetable. Several routes carried RER C alerts, so check again nearer the time.
- Workshops on 12 and 13 December are at the Palais and at Sorbonne Jussieu. Each row shows the Jussieu time too, so a Latin Quarter hotel can make sense if most of your days are there.
- Many of the lowest seller prices are non-refundable. Confirm the total and the cancellation terms before you book.
